My husband and I found out we were pregnant with our son on March 1st 2012 and right from when I found out I had a feeling something was wrong with my child. I went for my 12 week ultrasound and within 2 hours my doctor called me and said something is wrong and was assigned to a high risk pregnancy clinic.
Turns out our son had a condition called Fetalius Hydrops (too much fluid on heart, lungs and stomach). It was the first case in 30 years in Ontario, from there we got a CVS testing and that’s how we found out we were having a little boy but on top of this very rare disease he also had Trisomy 18 and knew it was just a matter of time before we would lose our little boy.
Three days after (at exactly 15 weeks) my water broke and I miscarried our son in the hospital as I developed a bad infection from him being so sick. I was absolutely devastated as we had also lost a baby boy in 2005 at 20 weeks; I thought I would never get a son.
Then a miracle happened I found I was pregnant again on September 5, 2012 not even 3 months after I miscarried. My son James is my “rainbow baby” and yes we had complications, which I believe with all my heart his little brother was looking over him to ensure he was okay and delivered into Mommy’s arms.
50 weeks after our last miscarriage I delivered him on May 31, 2013.
I hope this story helps other moms who have gone through this and to know every thing does happen for a reason and there is hope.
